Monks and their Cell Phones

At Monk Chat in Chiang Mai, the monks were much more interested in getting a photo of CAM than of BigB. It turns out that BigB just had to wait for his moment of glory: these monks in Labrang Monastery, China couldn’t get enough of his freckles and blue eyes.

Even More Toilet Signs

Words fail me.

A standard “Peeping Tom” sign. At least with this one you had some indication of which gender was intended to use the W.C.!

These, by the way, were found in a cheery little cafe in remote Chiang Khong, Thailand. Which just goes to show that such gems can be found literally anywhere :)

Brothers Together In Penang

brothers-together-in-penang

There are times when my boys fight with each other just for the sake of it. There are times when they go out of their way to bug each other. And then there are moments like this. Unprompted, unscripted and priceless.

A photo that begged to be taken :)

Family Fun In Australia

family-fun-australia

We spent our Christmas with my sister and her family in Australia. It was great to hang out with family for a few weeks and even better to get to know my nephew and for him to get to know us – which I think we all enjoyed tremendously.

Street Scenes Puerto Lopez Ecudaor

puerto-lopez-ecuador-malecon

This is a street-side view of the waterfront in Puerto Lopez. Although there are stores along the street, there are also plenty of street sellers, usually on bicycles, who work along this street.

From a distance, we thought this guy was selling bread rolls but on closer inspection, it turned out he had a box of various treats and pastries for sale. Guess who had happy kids once the (arduous) selection was finished and the treats paid for?

Photo Friday: Mitad Del Mundo

Mitad Del Mundo Ecuador

We started our family world trip in Quito, Ecuador. Although we plan to chill out at the beach in Southern Ecuador for a little rest and relaxation before we start the trip proper, I thought it would be fun to indulge in a little geekiness and take photos standing on the Equator as a way to mark the start of our journey in a notable way. My boys were only too happy to comply.

Mitad Del Mundo is an equatorial marker about an hour north of Quito. It’s a totally manufactured tourist attraction, but it’s fun. You can take your photo in front of the small on-site museum or…

Mitad Del Mundo Jumping The Equator

high-five-ing across the Equator.

The Mitad Del Mundo is easily accessible via the blue line public buses from central Quito. There is an expressway which runs along Av America and Av Del La Prensa. If like us, you think that you don’t really need to take the express bus, be warned, the trip takes at least 30 minutes longer on the local buses. We paid less than $5 there and back for all four of us.

Baby’s First Sunset

sunset

Yes, that is me, hanging on at the back of a fast-moving boat with a two-week-old baby in my arms. We survived, the baby did not fall into the water and the sunset was worth the effort.

Have a guess where this one was taken.
Hint: Think west. Way, way, way West – yet still in the USA.
