With the Llama Lady in Cusco

Peru-With-Kids-Cuzco-Llama

I’m not a fan of locals anywhere posing in “traditional” costume waiting to charge tourists for taking a photo, but when it results in a photo like this, well, maybe I don’t mind so much.

Artisan Pottery Peru

Peru-With-Kids-Artisan-Pottery

Although we went to Nazca, Peru to see the famous Nazca Lines, we also visited the workshop of a local artisan and BigB had a one-on-one lesson in making and painting pre-Incan style pottery.

Nazca Lines

Peru-With-Kids-Nazca-Lines

Some governments recommend against taking flights over the Nazca Lines because of concerns related to safety of the tiny twin-engine airplanes that do the trip. We found this out after doing our (very enjoyable) flight :)

Landing the Daily Catch in Puerto Lopez

Ecuador-Tourism-Landing-Catch-Puerto-Lopez

We were on our way to visit Machalilla National Park to look at wildlife. First we had to step over the carcasses of sharks littering the beach in Puerto Lopez. Ironic, no?

On the Beach in Puerto Lopez

Ecuador-Tourism-Beach-Puerto-Lopez

Our trip to Isla de la Plata, Ecuador, departed from the beach in Puerto Lopez. When we arrived there was a frenzy of activity on the beach as the day’s catch was unloaded from a flotilla of small fishing boats.

Waiting for the Bus in Ambato

A couple waiting for the bus in Ambato, central Ecuador. Life is harsh in the Andes, they could be in their thirties or in their sixties. I couldn’t even hazard a guess.

Iguana in Bolivar Park Guayaquil

Ecuador-Family-Iguana-Guayaquil

An iguana preening in Bolivar Park, Guayaquil, Ecuador.

Simon Bolivar Park is a small, pretty city park in the center of Guayaquil, Ecuador. It is also home to a large colony (possibly extended family?) of iguanas. They scramble around your feet, drape off the trees and, like this one, preen in the sunshine. Enjoy!

What Does A Travelling Mom Look Like in Iran

travel-iran-birthday-photo

“Happy Birthday to me, Happy Birthday to me!”

No matter, his observation prompted a conversation that lasted all day where we tried (and failed) to remember where we’ve been on each of those birthdays. I decided that from now on we should take an official “Birthday Photo” with a landmark in the background. Ta-Da: me and my boys with the Sheikh Lotfollah Mosque, Esfahan, Iran with it’s glorious, intricate, Islamic tile-work behind us.
