Funky Store And Road Signs

Pinterest

fight-nights-and-food

When my husband and children were showing me their photos from their road trip this past summer, they found this collection of funky store and road signs uproariously funny. Their collection started with this incongrous mixture of food and fighting taken in Butte.

bryce-canyon-centaur

I’m 100% sure that BigB’s love of Harry Potter came into play when he described this sign as “Centaurs Crossing”.

Ho-made-pies

This one needs no explanation.

DDT

Both boys were fascinated by this 1940s advertisement extolling the benefits of DDT as shown at one of the excellent ranger talks they attended.

yreka-bakery

A visit to Yreka to take a photo in front of the Yreka Bakery sign was deemed a necessary side trip by my word-game-loving trio. There isn’t actually an operating business of this name in Yreka but when one of the boys spotted this sign on the wall of a cafe, he called out: “Aha Dad, Yreka Bakery. Dad, Aha!”

About wandermom

". . .life is short and the world is wide" - Simon Raven I'm not sure I've ever consciously planned a trip based on this sentiment, but it definitely influences my subconscious! I've been traveling as frequently and widely as possible since I finished school. And I love it. I love the research, the planning, the fervent packing and the curiosity of exploring somewhere I've never been before. My husband & I are both Irish - as in born-in-Ireland. But we live in Seattle. We have two boys: wild, boisterous, regular boys. So, since becoming a Mom, I've been a WanderMom. Given our slightly-unusual family situation, routine "visits-to-Grandma" are international trips requiring passports, 10hr-flights and (oh joy!) airport transfers. I have rants, raves and opinions about how, where & why to travel with kids (start them as young as you can, I say!). I hope to learn even more by researching topics which other wandermoms may be interested in reading about on this blog. Passports, pacifiers, diapers and gameboys at the ready - off we go! These ARE funny! Of course the Ho-made Pie sign is great, but I think I like the Centaurs Crossing the best!

I don’t know if the Ho-Made pie sign…or the advertisement “DDT is good for me-e-e!” takes the prize for strangest find. They’re all pretty funny, though. Thanks for the morning’s chuckle!

Yes – I remember your earlier posts about their trip – it sounds like they had a great time. My favorite part of all this though, is how cool it was that they managed said roadtrip themselves! Can you line up some of those tours for my kids? 😉
