Origami In Hue
Just inside the square of the main palace at the Citadel or Imperial City in Hue, Vietnam, there are a pair of massive bronze urns filled with rain water. Unsurprisingly, as with fountains and other such water features in any city, people throw loose change into the urns for good luck. When CAM peeked into Read the Rest…
Some Catch-up Posts
I put up yesterday’s post on our Thanksgiving at the Posada Salentein in Argentina and immediately thought, “Hmm, that’s going to be pretty confusing to any friends or family who read our blog to follow along with where we are and what we’re doing.” We are in Koh Lanta in Thailand, we’ve been here for Read the Rest…
Hotel Review: Posada Salentein Argentina
The map showing wineries, campsites and hotels was on my lap as we trundled into the Valle de Uco, about 80km south of Mendoza in Western Argentina, in our less-than-spacious campervan. It was the day before Thanksgiving and I was on the lookout for a special place to stay to celebrate the occasion.
And One More Thing
CAM and I were leaving the sprawling MBK mall in central Bangkok. “That’s another reason why I hate this trip” he said. He was behind me, so I couldn’t see the look on his face, but I could tell from the tone of his voice that he wasn’t being serious. He is a master curmudgeon. Read the Rest…
Thai Motorway Toilet Sign
Spotted at a motorway gas station on the way into Bangkok. There were regular male/female toilet signs posted but some humorist had put this up on the wall just by the entrance to the men’s restroom. This collection of whacky toilet signs is building quite nicely. You can check out the set at WanderMom Toilet Read the Rest…
Motorscooter Freight
The web abounds with photos of swarms of motorscooters in cities all over the world particularly in South-East Asia. It truly is a change of pace than in European and American cities. I find the motorscooters piled with freight most fascinating, good enough, certainly for a Top 5 post.
Fast Forward Vietnam
I found Vietnam exhilarating. Thailand is an easier country to travel in, I found the poverty in Laos very disturbing and I’m still trying to reconcile the wealth we observed in Phnom Penh and Siam Reap with abject poverty in rural Cambodia.
Remote North-Eastern Laos
Luang Prabang, Vientiane and Vang Vieng are popular tourist destinations in Laos. In fact, traveling between these cities is now a very well-trodden backpacker path. Luang Namtha is opening up as an eco-tourism destination. Many travelers we met were on their way to Savannakhet and the 4,000 islands area. We, on the other hand decided Read the Rest…
Bomb Shells
Munitions as decor outside Craters, a local restaurant, in Phonsavan, Laos. And outside the local tourist information office. A legacy of a secret war that’s still affecting the people of Laos.
