A 22 year old Washington state resident really did disappear in northern Laos, maybe 6 years ago! He left all his stuff in a guest house and disappeared! I’m glad your story has a happy ending, and what a cool tree house!

I got flutterbys in my stomach just reading this. I remember how frantic I got when I lost my 3 year old boy in a department store for five minutes. I can’t imagine loosing him in the jungle for five hours! I’m so glad everything turned out alright for you.

Okay, Michelle: If you keep writing travel posts like this one, I’m going to have to stop reading Wandermom.com. I feel sick to my stomach! Thank goodness for the happy ending. Give the MurphnDuff clan a hug from me.

Thank goodness, our dad, who was a boy scout leader made us carry whistles and taught me and my sister and cousins that as soon as you realize you are lost – stop right there don’t go any further and blow your whistle every once in awhile. Even if you lose your whistle, stop and stay there as you can’t be that far from where you are supposed to be. And it works…my cousin got lost and we found her not far off the trail when we backtracked…she was 8. Thank goodness you guys found your son.

While hiking a few months ago my youngest son received a head injury from a rock fall. The ambulance and helicopter rides, waiting outside the operating room, and then all night in ICU were the longest of my life. I empathize with the hours of waiting that you endured. In both cases the boys survived to tell their respective tales.

Oh my gosh! I couldnt stop reading, waiting with suspense to hear that he was ok. How amazing that he thought to head to the village, and then the tour people to bring him back. Gosh that was one amazing adventure – and one he can tell his own kids when he is older. So glad that it had such a happy ending.

    Cheers
    Lisa
