Salta and La Quebrada de Humahuaca

This week I’m trying something new. I’m doing photo-blog posts on our time in Argentina. Today is Week 6: Salta and La Quebrada de Humahuaca. I hope you enjoy!

This “Christmas Tree” outside the cathedral on Salta’s main square reminded us that the holidays were fast approaching. The very strange thing about entended travel is that even though you may have days which are dictated by bus, train or flight schedules, on most days, you lose track of time. At least once a day every day some one of us asks “What day is it?”. It’s quite strange.

Iguazu Falls

This week I’m trying something new. I’m doing photo-blog posts on our time in Argentina. Today is Week 5: Back To Buenos Aires And On To Iguazu. I hope you enjoy!

motorhometime-goodbye

Sadly, it was time to say goodbye to our home on wheels. The folks at Motorhometime.com are great. They are friendly, accommodating, supportive and do their best to stay in touch with you when you’re on the road. I can’t recommend them highly enough. And, they build their own campervans, so they’re intimately familiar with the vehicle that you’re renting.

This photo has nothing to do with Valle de Uco, but I like it so I’m including it – and we did spend the morning cycling and hiking in Villa La Angostura before heading north.

Bariloche and Argentinan Lakes District

This week I’m trying something new. I’m doing photo-blog posts on our time in Argentina. Today is Week 3: Chocolate, Beer, Lakes and Mountains in Bariloche. I hope you enjoy!

romulus-remus-statue-bariloche

On our first day tourist-ing in Bariloche we came upon this statue of Romulus and Remus – particularly apt since the very excellent History of Rome podcast had kept us entertained (and sane) on the multi-day drive across the Pampas.

Gauchos!

This week I’m trying something new. I’m doing photo-blog posts on our time in Argentina. Today is Week 2: Gauchos and The Pampas. I hope you enjoy!

San Antonio de Areco Gaucho Festival

San Antonio de Areco is a small town just an hour and a half outside Buenos Aires. We’d heard about the annual festival celebrating Gauchos and the gaucho culture (Dia de la Tradicion) and so, we headed out to investigate. Coming from the bus station we literally walked into a parade of gauchos on horseback on their way to the town fair grounds. We followed – on foot.

Visiting The Concho Y Toro Winery

(Our camera was stolen the day before we visited Concha Y Toro. The picture above is my husband’s rendition of our tasting experience.)

We like to drink wine in my house. In fact, I’d go so far as to say that we love to drink wine. We’ve toured vineyards in Napa and in Walla Walla and my kids, although not really fans of waiting around while Mom and Dad swish and swill reds and whites, at least know the drill.

A History Lesson In Santiago

la-moneda-santiago-chile

“Does Chile have a space program?” I asked my husband as we rounded the corner into the park-like area behind La Moneda, the presidential palace in central Santiago. He fixed me with one of his “Are you really that stupid, woman?” stares.
